WWWE Logo Worlds Chat

Worlds Chat is a 3-D multi-user community (MUC) that allows you to navigate and chat in 3-D (as opposed to text-only). Chat programs, whether or not they are 3-D, are environments that let you communicate IRT (in real time) with other people on the Net. They're comparable to an on-line CB system. Worlds Chat lets you not only to chat with, but also see characters around you.

Detail:

Characters in Worlds Chat are called avatars, after their models in Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash. When installed, Worlds Chat stores its graphics on your computer so the time lag is not unbearable when you're chatting. Worlds Chat can handle MIDI audio, stereo wave, and full motion compressed video, so it's more "realistic" than text-based fantasy environments.
